Listen At Arthur’s

This Month at Listen at Arthurs we have three very different flavours of improvised music ! This month: guitarist and singer Niwel Tsumbu, and percussionist Éamonn Cagney will be performing music with sources ranging from classical to Central African music. Flautist Lina Andonovska and drummer Matthew Jacobson performing stunning new work by Composers Barry O’Halpin and Nick Roth. and Finally as part of Music Network’s “Masters and Rising Stars series” pianists Phil Ware and Luke Howard take to the stage for an interesting new piano duo. The music from the GLG – Greg Lloyd Group – www.greglloydmusic.com – is original instrumental World, Jazz, Blues, Classical, Rock and Funk all mixed up into a piano trio cocktail inspired by the music of Avishai Cohen, Esbjorn Svensson Trio (EST), Pat Metheny Group and by Greg’s time working on the film ‘El Gusto’ with Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz), an award-winning film about the lost ‘Chaabi’ music of Northern Africa.

This is more a one-man show than a talk. The author of “Song & Dance Man III: The Art Of Bob Dylan” – the definitive study of Dylan’s 40-year body of work – uses a surprising selection of great records to show how hugely Dylan has been inspired by the blues and how much of its poetry has been smuggled inside Dylan’s own work.
