Scott Flanigan/Ant Law Quartet

Written by conall. Posted in Blues'n'Jazz, Music

Two of the UK and Ireland’s most exciting young improvisers join forces to create a new quartet, exploring innovative takes on traditional repertoire and fresh new compositions. Joined by prolific Irish musicians Dave Redmond on bass and Kevin Brady on drums, pianist Flanigan and guitarist Law are delighted to bring this new ensemble to Ireland. Both Flanigan and Law have composed new music for this new quartet, showcasing not only their abilities as inventive composers, but also their understanding of the jazz traditions and their place in contemporary performance. Scott Flanigan is one of the foremost keyboard players on the Irish jazz scene. He performs regularly across the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and Germany, and has recently performed with Van Morrison, the Ulster Orchestra, Larry Coryell, Jean Toussaint, Jim Mullen and Linley Hamilton. As a leader, Scott successfully tours his own contemporary piano trio, as well as a hard-swinging organ quartet. Described as “An innovator” and “A gamechanger” by The Guardian, British guitarist Ant lives in London and leads his owns group. His debut “Entanglement” was released in 2013 to great acclaim, followed by “Zero Sum World” in 2015. They have toured extensively and the third album “Life I Know” was released in November 2018 on Edition Records. Ant plays in Tim Garland’s band with Jason Rebello & Asaf Sirkis, featuring on “Songs To The North Sky”, “Return To The Fire” and “ONE” which was shortlisted for a Grammy and won the Jazzwise Best Album award. He is a member of Trio HLK who record/tour with Dame Evelyn Glennie. He has also worked with Gwilym Simcock, Cory Henry, Thomas Gould and is frequently featured in “Total Guitar” and “Guitar Techniques” magazines, most recently as an “Astounding Virtuoso” (August 2018).
