All Ireland Live Poetry October Open-Mic

Written by conall. Posted in Blues'n'Jazz

Come all ye poets, rhymers and wordsmiths, to read your work at the inaugural All Ireland Live Poetry Open-Mic.

The format of the night takes its inspiration from the last weekly poetry open-mic in Dublin, Write and Recite (2004-8), and Ó Bhéal: Cork’s Weekly Poetry Event. Itself – with the Gerry McNamara ‘five word slam’ – replicating the best bits of the old WaR night, created and hosted by Palmerstown poetry legend, Gerry Mac. You put your name on the open-mic list when you come in, sign-up 7.30-8pm, and the reading order follows that of the names on the list. The night begins at 8pm with the Gerry McNamara Five Word Challenge. Five words, that are taken from your suggestions in the comment section here, that will be pulled from a hat on the night. Those wanting to participate then have the time of a pint-break to rustle up a spontaneous poem in which all the five words appear, and which are then read at the mic, if you want to. This section is then followed by our first guest poet (20 mins), and after that a two hour Open-Mic
