This Month at Listen at Arthurs we have Irish Traditional Music, Contemporary Jazz, and Classical Music ! This month Pianist Izumi Kimura will be leading her new trio with Guitarist Joe O’Callaghan and Basist Derek Whyte. We’ll have Uilleann Piper Jimmy O’Brian Moran and Finally as part of Music Network’s “Masters and Rising Stars series” Clarinetist Deirdre O’Leary will be performing with her chosen rising star. It’s gonna be another great night at Listen At Arthurs, I hope we see you there !

Cormac Kenevey – Album Launch

Ahead of the official on-line release of the singer’s new album “Turning Skies” at Cork Jazz Festival, the Cormac Kenevey quartet will appear at Arthur’s to showcase the music from the new album. The critically acclaimed Dublin singer, in the tradition of Jon Hendricks and Mark Murphy, will be performing music from Brad Mehldau, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Kristina Train and more. Expect an evening of breezy grooves, sparkling lyrics and entertaining solos from this tight working quartet. Secret pre-release CD copies of “Turning Skies” will be available on the night! Award winning Belfast singer songwriter Kaz Hawkins, has relaunched as a solo artist and is touring the UK & Ireland in 2018 with her new piano/vocal show with special guest Sam York (Tom Jones/Ed Sheeran) on piano. Kaz has been taking her new material on the road, in an intimate and personal show about her life in song addressing mental health issues in her ongoing campaign to reduce stigma. Her life story is one of ultimate survival and she now used her story to give hope. Kaz’s 2017 album Don’t You Know introduced audiences around the world to the powerful, emotive new direction of a woman who owes being alive to the music she now performs. An artist that truly connects with her audience on a personal level & Northern Ireland’s very own Blues Queen.

With his unique style and virtuosic technique, Richie Buckley is internationally recognised as one of Ireland’s leading jazz performers. Described by the Irish Times as “something of a genius…[with] a world reputation amongst saxophonists”, he has collaborated with musicians as diverse as Van Morrison, Freddie Hubbard, Bob Dylan, Georgie Fame, Jon Hendricks, Carlos Santana, Barry Manilow, Elvis Costello and James Williams.

Bio: A self-taught saxophone player Buckley’s unique style and virtuosic technique is internationally recognise. He is one of Ireland’s leading jazz performers. He has been described as “extraordinary” (Irish Times, 2001), “something of a genius…[with] a world reputation amongst saxophonists” (Irish Times, 1999) and a musician whose “playing manages to be simultaneously passionate and gentle, romantic and elegiac.” (Sunday Independent, 2001) Musicians with whom he has collaborated include Van Morrison, Freddie Hubbard, Dave McKenna, Harry Allen, Lew Soloff, Guy Barker, Jiggs Wigham, Bob Dylan, Georgie Fame, Jon Hendricks, Carlos Santana, Barry Manilow, and Elvis Costello. Recording credits include Van Morrison, James Williams, Barry Manilow, Riverdance, Lord of the Dance and Elmer Bernstein.

He has also recorded and performed with major Irish artists including The Cranberries, Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon, Sinead O’Connor, Paul Brady and Bill Whelan. His critically acclaimed album ‘Your Love is Here’, featuring his own compositions and guest artists Lew Soloff and the Robin Aspland Trio, was recorded in September 2000.

Richie has scored three documentary films – ‘Luke’ (Luke Kelly, directed by Sinead O’Brien), ‘Friel’, ‘Lee Marvin’ (directed by John Boorman) and the film ‘The General’ (directed by John Boorman). Most recently Richie scored the soundtrack to W.C (Dir: Liam O’Mochain) and his track, ‘Just Another Waltz’ has featured in Maurice Linnane’s first feature ‘A Kiss For Jed’
