Written by conall. Posted in Blues'n'Jazz, Music, What's on this Month

Ireland’s Leading Jazz Guitarist Tommy Halferty performs his first concert of 2020 with his critically acclaimed trio at Arthurs. This trio to date has been performing Internationally playing Halferty’s new original compositions which feature a blend of improvised music, swing, rock & blues. Halferty is one of the leading exponents of Jazz Guitar Improvisation from Ireland, having performed nationally and Internationally for over 30 years.

The Irish Times: Derry guitarist Tommy Halferty assumed the mantel of Ireland’s most respected jazz guitarist. In a scene replete with talented jazz guitarists, that is praise indeed, but Halferty wears his mantle lightly, and his influence on younger guitarists, both as a player and as an educator, has been considerable. The ebullient guitarist’s longstanding trio features the hardest-swinging, most experienced mainstream rhythm section on the Irish scene today: Drummer Kevin Brady and bassist Dave Redmond, who respond to Halferty’s effortlessly fluent post-bop playing with talent and creativity

Nigel Mooney is widely regarded as Ireland’s leading jazz singer and guitarist. A charismatic figure on the Dublin jazz and blues scenes since the early 1980’s, his Gripewater Blues Band spearheaded the blues movement in Ireland and drew many fans of both jazz and the blues. A self-taught musician, Mooney was influenced by the blues from an early age and his hard-bop style of guitar playing is expressive and melodic with a bluesy groove. He possesses a warm and rich tenor voice and has an almost flawless sense of pitch.
